Frequently asked questions

I take my child to regular well baby check ups and am not concerned about his/her development.  Why should I have them screened?

Children change daily in terms of development.  Your child's development should be continuously monitored along with his/her health so that any possible areas of concerns can be caught early.

My child is 12 months old and not walking yet, my doctor says to just wait and see, that children gain skills at different ages.  But I am still concerned.  What should I do?

Developmental Screenings are a great way to reassure you that your child is developing on target or to identify areas that could benefit from added support.  Call today to schedule a free screening.

My daycare provider has mentioned that my son/daughter is much more aggressive than the other children.  I don't want my child to be a bully, but everything is a constant battle.  He/she is always throwing things, hitting, and telling me no!  What can I do?

PowerToolz, Inc. can help create a behavior program that your entire family can benefit from. We can also do a daycare classroom observation to determine why your child is battling with everyone.

When should I seek help for my child?

Anytime that a referral is made by a physician, screening or if parents have concerns.

What is a good age to start speech therapy?

When an evaluation is completed and the speech therapist recommends services (typically a 30% delay in their speech and language skills).

How often do children receive speech therapy services?

It is determined by the child's needs and severity.  Typically sessions are 1-2 times per week for 45-60 minutes.

What is the process to get an evaluation?

If your child is having problems in any area of development or if you are concerned about his or her development please give us a call. We will help you out every step of the way.

How can I prepare for an evaluation?

During the evaluation you and your child will be working a professional or a team of professionals who want to learn about your child’s needs. You have a right to ask questions and to know the results of the evaluation. To help you prepare for the evaluation you may wish to bring the following:

• Important questions
• Information on your child’s developmental progress
• Baby history book
• Medical reports
• Prior evaluation reports
• Medications

Overall, the evaluation serves in determining eligibility for early intervention services (for birth to three years) and/or in determining the types and levels of services needed by your child.
