I need help to replace my brushes on a makita 9553NB 4 inch angle grinder the old model i used to have had easy access.. coin sized slots on the handle that you simply uncsrew to reveal the brushes. my newer model has the brushes inside more.. i need step by step instructions on how to replace.. thank you

First unplug the tool, next on the backside you will notice a screw, remove it and slide the cover back to expose the backside of the motor. gently move the springs that hold the brushes tight to the side and remove the brushes and replace. Make sure to replace the springs and then slide the cover back into place and replace the screw and that should take care of your problem.

Bosch angle grinder acts like its burnt out but motor resistance values suggest not

Hi Brian, running your angle grinder on reduced voltage (through overloading the petrol generator) will have caused the current in the grinder to be higher than it should be. This may not be what you expect, but it is a characteristic of rotating machines, they behave differently to resistive machines such as heating elements. You have not indicated how you come to the conclusion that the windings test OK. If you have just checked with an ohm-meter and see a continuity reading, this does not eliminate the possibility that the overheating resulting from over-current has broken down the insulation (evidenced by the smell and sparks) and you have short circuited windings. The grinder will run without a suppression capacitor, it is just there to minimise interference with you neighbour's (or your wife/girlfriend/daughter's :) ) radio. Replacing the capacitor will not restore your grinder, I reckon you have killed it, in spite of the fact that running it on a healthy supply was to quickest way to cool it effectively.

Angle grinder How do I remove the grinding wheel on a Makita 4 1/2 angle grinder? Do I need a special tool?

On a grinder the nut that holds the wheel on has left handed threads.....that means it has to be turned in the opposite direction than conventional nuts do..there should be a button on the casing to hold in..this keeps the grinding wheel from turning wheel being removed....remember to unplug first..thanks and have a great day

I dont think the gap is your problem. I would have to think more of a overloading problem or a power supply. the gap as you call it has nothing to do with the performance. if they are burning up then check for the overload or lack of proper voltage, either one will burn one up
