Two drive configurations

Direct-Drive Motors are linked directly to the blade and transfer all of the motor’s power to the blade. Belt-Drive Motors have a belt that transfers power from the motor to the blade. In belt drive systems, the motor can be offset away from sawdust generated during operation, causing the motor last longer. Belt drive systems require slightly more preventive maintenance than direct drive systems. So you'll need to check the belts for wear and proper tension periodically.

Fence will not lock in place

You adjust the handle tension by actually adjusting the t-square itself, changing the relative position it sits from the rect tube mounted to the saw. This is done by turning the two allen set screws mounted in the angle iron that is welded to the fence. There are a couple of tabs that ride along the inside face of the rect tube when the fence slides from side to side. You'll see that each of these tabs is adjustable, in or out, by slightly turning the allen set screws with an allen wrench. BOTH of these must be adjusted, so that you maintain the fence's 'squareness' to the table. What I do is line up the edge of the fence with the mitre slot in the saw table, feeling the edge of the fence as it hangs over the edge of the mitre slot, both at the infeed and outfeed end of the slot. It should be perfectly flush at both ends. By turning the set screws in or out a little, you can adjust the handle tension to the place where you like it (you don't need to force it into position to have it hold firmly; that's too tight). Then check the squareness of the fence by clamping it down along the edge of the mitre jig slot, and see if it's parrallel. If not, you need to adjust one or both screws to make it parrallel, and get the tension right. You may have to go back and forth a few times, but eventually you can dial it in to where it feels just right and the alignment is correct. Think small adjustments. At the same time, put a little dab of wheel bearing grease or vaseline on the cam of the fence handle where it rubs against that little flap. This will make it easier to engage when the tension is firm and keep it from wearing abrasively. This fence is a joy to use when it's dialed in. I hope you find this information helpful. Happy woodworking!

Cuts not square-bevel adjustment

Here's something to try. Get a dial indicator or a drop indicator to measure the blade wobble. Clamp the indicator to your miter gage or use a magnetic base or whatever. Position the indicator so that it contacts the side of the blade as near the outside diameter as possible, then rotate the blade by hand. If there is any warp to the blade, or bend in the arbor, or something out of square where the blade mounts on the arbor, this will pick it up. If that is all good, maybe you have a couple of teeth that were miss-sharpened and are sticking out to the side more than they should (causing a virtual wobble at the tooth end). You could position the indicator on the side of a tooth, then slowly rotate the blade backwards looking for the max reading on each tooth. You should repeat this on the other side of the blade too. Total wobble should only be a few thousandths. Good luck!

I have a craftsman table saw.;;;;;;;;Not a power matic. I would like to know how the fence works and how the stops and adjustments work. There is a stop on the right side of the fence that I do not have and I need to order it from sears.I need to know how it effects the accesory of the saw. The Model of the saw is 351 221140.I think it a micro adjustment knob.If I could see a parts break down I may be able to order the parts. Thank you H D Perry. PS I have a great tabel saw for big things.

I think you can download a manual for your saw from this link. or this link.Another site I have had good luck with for these older models is here. Choose the publications/reprints tab at left, then choose craftsman in the manufacturer's link, and then click on machine type to sort the list into table saws. From there you might find a similar vintage manual that has the details you need. Many models have similar parts, and the descriptions of fence operation, etc are somewhat common.Good luck.I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I have an older Rockwell 10 in. table saw, model 34-440. The blade is cutting approx 2/32 to 3/32 off from front to rear causing a wide saw cerf and difficulty feeding the material through against the fence. What is the proper way to adjust the blade to run true?

These lightweight saws can be somewhat problematic in this respect. They have a tendency to come out of adjustment as they are moved about.First, make sure the blade you're using is true and has little runout. You can check this using a micrometer, or simply marking a tooth and spinning the blade by hand (power unplugged) to see if the blade runs true or wavers in its path. If the blade is warped or bent the problem is probably there rather than the table.Second, check to make sure the fence is properly adjusted, parallel to the mitre slots. If the fence is out of adjustment, the path of the material relative to the blade will not be parallel, and this can cause poor cuts.Third, hope it's one of the first two. If not, set a day or weekend aside to work on the saw. Get some good light and flip it over on a table or horses so you can see what you're doing. Have the parts diagram and owner's manual on hand. You'll need to loosen the bolts that hold the table top against the saw mechanism beneath the top, and shift the saw relative to the top in the desired direction to correct for the out-of true path of the blade relative to the table top. On some lighter saws like yours, this entails re-adjusting most of the saw mechanisms to run true, as they are frequently independently bolted to the underside of the table and not unified construction that moves as a single piece. You have to shift the saw slightly in the required direction, check the runout of the blade, then repeat until you get it right. If you're skilled and you don't mind standing on your head, you can do this with the saw in position. There are many excellent articles online that detail this procedure if you search google for "table saw tune up", so I won't elaborate on the details. Try to find one that has a saw similar to yours as an example. Good luck.I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
