I purchased the new Ridgid tile saw named " The Beast". Initially it looked like a great saw buy after cutting a few ceramic tiles I began to notice that it cuts with a slight curve. I could not find any way to resolve this issue. I noticed that the motor/blade assembly which sits on an angle adjustment arm for angle cuts, has some free play. That free play is not something that I could find a solution for and I am wondering if that is causing this non linear cut. Ridgid tech support was no help at all either. Gave it back to Home Depot and I am wondering is I bought a dud and should try another unit.

Its either the speed of the blade ( mine came with its speed at half rate), or its the crappy blade they give you with the saw. If a cut is bowing your blade is having a tough time with material. This often happens with tough porcelain tiles and not using a porcelain blade.

Tile saw not cutting straight

Sometimes a blade that is set deep enough will walk in this manner, especially if it is a thin kerf blade like the MK Hotdog blade. Also, a blade which has worn unevenly will do this too.

Bought saw about 5 yrs ago along with 15'' planer. I imediately noticed the effort to raise the blade was really excessive. I assumed it was well made and simply tight. I did not get better, at all. Spoke to an engineer at pM, who advised it would loosen in time but to squirt some wd-40 on the binding area and, over time, it would improve. Well, it has been years, with no improvement, at all. Frankly, I'm barely able to raise the blade at all, without help from a stronger person. I'm 68 now and don't feel I should have to deal with it any longer. The saw is an has been for home/shop use only so IT will never get, what you call, a real work out...not ever....I MAKE SPLIT BAMBOO FLY RODS,,,,have lots of tools, all working nicely, except the blade lift situation. Can some one help? I'm at my wits end with this. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING that was suggested several times with no success. HELP...HELP....THIS WAS A GIFT FROM MY WIFE, ALONG WITH THE 15'' JOINTER. FOR XMAS. YUP, I'm a lucky guy, for sure. But I need to be able to say the product really delivers.

I would get a can of spray silicone, and soak all moving parts, that apply to that mechanism with it, and work it in good, it may just help. I would think that if the silicone doesn't do it, then something is obviously too tight at assembly or manufactured improper. If you could give me make & model, I may be able to find an exploded view of mechanism & help determine where binding may be occurring.

The saw will not start when plugged it. I tried a different outlet, and no change. i tried the reset button and, i even held the reset button down for 30 seconds and no change. I even opened up the swith box to check the wiring and everything looks solid-no corrosion, no loose wires and not thing missing. My fatherin in succesfuly used the saw a year ago- ( as a new purchase). The saw was garaged for a year with no use or damage. The owners manual has no other helpful information. Thanks for your help- November 27, 2010

More then likely the switch itself is bad. You will need to check it by using a volt meter or a Sperry 4-Way Electrical Tester. It is sold at Home Depot for only $2.96. Here is the location. Open the switch box like you did before. Plug in the saw. Now touch the black and red leads to the black and white wires coming into the switch. If the light comes on, you have power coming into the switch. If the light does not come on, then you have a problem between the plug and the switch. If the light did come on, then you will need to test the other side of the switch. Turn the switch to the on position. Touch the leads to the wires coming out of the switch, just like you did before. If the light comes on, the switch is good, If not, the switch needs to be replaced. If the light comes on, then I believe the brushes may need to be checked on the motor.
