Circular saw Types

There are for types of circular saws available. 1. Worm Drive - The motor is in line with the blade, delivering enough torque to carve up wet lumber or saw through concrete, which makes a worm drive ideal for framing or major renovation jobs. With the handle farther back, a user can better resist kickback and steer the 16-pound saw through long rips. 2. Sidewinder - The motor sits alongside the blade, making for a lighter (11 pounds or less) saw, which is more maneuverable over a long day than a worm drive. 3. Small Sidewinder - Weight, balance, and handle size are all key features to consider when choosing a saw that fits you. For a slight-bodied person, a small model may be more appropriate than a full-size sidewinder. 4. Cordless - Battery-driven models have increased in size as their power packs have gained voltage, making them convenient tools out in the field or when the electricity's not on. However, cordless models still have limited run times and generate less torque than corded saws. 5. Trim Saw - For finish work or paneling, this is your best choice. blades range from 3½ to 412 inches.

Replacing the blade on a Makita 255mm miter saw

I take it you have both flanges and the washer that is behind the innner flange, if not stop there and you need to get them. As far as the blade goes it depends on what size arbor it has. You would need to use the washer that goes on the spindle with no play (movement) and put the blade on the washer I would not use a washer that is thicker than the blade. Put the outer flange on making sure of the direction and then the blade bolt LH thread. Let me know if you have any problems before starting the saw PLEASE and I will help more.

I am borrowing my brothers Craftsman model 137.218240 table saw. Unfortunately, it has a on/off switch problem (I believe). Yesterday, I was able to use it all day although, at first, I had difficulty getting it to turn "on". After about a dozen attempts (with no noise coming from the "on" switch activation) I called my brother who verified that the saw had this problem the last time he used it. He suggested I keep trying and I did and several activations later I heard a "thunk" noise twice (kind of like a locked rotor type sound), then finally it turned on a few trys later and all was well yesterday, just cross cutting some thin laminate flooring. However, this morning, same problem! However, after getting it going for two small cuts, I now cannot get it going, I just get the occasional "thunk" or momentary blade spinning! My questions are as follows: 1. Can I get inside this saw to see whether I can either repair, replace or bypass this switch myself. 2. Are you familiar with this type of problem and know of a solution? Manufacturer defect? By the way, the saw is not under warranty and Sear's service center is way too far away for me. also, this problem exists regardless whether I'm using an extension cord or not so I know it's not a low-voltage issue. Thanks in advance, Wayne

You can chec wiring or switch with an ohmmeter to determine if it is bad. You should be able to remove a few screws to access the inside of the saw fairly easily. You can easily by-pass the switch by twisting the wires together. Though it will have to be untwisted to shut off again. You could just unplug it. There isn't much to these.

1 HP. motor wiring, need help!

Simple to do. Go to the local hardware or home improvement store and get a 6 to 8 foot heavy-duty extension cord. Cut the outlet end (not the Plug end) off, you won't use it. Strip back the outer casing of the cord to expose the three wires, black, white and green. The Green wire is connected to frame of the motor or saw to ground it for safety reasons. The White wire is connected to the silver color screw connection. The Black wire is connected to one terminal of the switch, another wire is connected from the second switch terminal to the brass color screw on the motor. Plug in the extension cord, and flip "ON" the switch and cut some wood and think of your Grandpa....good guy!
