I have a brand new Grinder 230mm and now need to change the grinding disc however I cannot get the locking flange off - I have detroyed one spanner, and purchased a stronger one, but still no good. can anyone help? and will this happen every time I attempt to change a disc (did not think I tensioned it up to tight) - wellsy

Try turning it the opposite way. Instead of loosening it, you may be tightening it. Reverse threads on these machines are necessary to keep the flange from flying off by itself. Joe

How to.... I just recived this angle grinder, it's not new and my father told me he hasn't used it for a long time. How can I change the disc? and how exactly to I use it?

Most angle grinders arrive with a spanner; two if it is quite old. if you are not experienced with such tools and do not have the instruction book i strongly suggest you take a trip to your local hire shop and purchase a couple of discs and some goggles and explain your problem there. the staff there will be expert at giving tool virgins crash courses in the safe operation. dont forget a safety rcd for your electric plug.

Hi, I'm trying to change the fiber disc on a DeWalt DW402 but after pushing the locking button on top I'm not able to unscrew the wheel. If I turn counterclockwise the wheel turns, but it seems I have to go clockwise because that's the way it's "locked" (resistance). With both hands and a second person keeping the button in I still can't get it to budge at ALL. Anything I've found on the web describes using a wrench on the tube between the wheel and grinder, but mine has a perfectly round 3/4" metal sleeve there, so there's nothing for a wrench to grab onto. HELP! (please)

The button on the top of the gearcase is used to lock the shaft only when you are tightening the nut. It is of no use when removing the nut. The DW402 was an early model and made no provision for removing the nut.

Hi...I have a Black and Decker 4247 angle grinder that I haven't changed the disc on in YEARS...I can't remember if the clamp nut is right hand threaded or left...please help! Thanks lots!

Which ever way your grinder spins when turned on is the same direction the lock nut has to be turned to remove it. This makes sure it's self tightening when in use. More often than not they're right-tight, left-loose.

I have an older Black and Decker "Heavy Duty" 4 1/2" angle grinder (CAT 4246-09 Typ 1 SER 74136). I got it second hand and am not sure if you can help me because of that, but I have NO idea how to loosen the disc in order to replace it. I have had a couple of people look at it and they were stumped also. I would assume that there would be a button or a lever that would jam the disc to allow me to loosen the bolt/nut. I have a wrench that fits the rotating bolt below the disc, but like I mentioned, I have no clue how to prevent the disc from rotating while I loosen that bolt. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Give it a tip off a hammer and chicel will loosen it beter hit the spanner

Disc flies off when grinder stops

Yes the above is correct with the question "are the threads the right size." but it can also be because u are not slowing the grinder down before stopping it. if the grinder stopps to soon the disk will stay moving. so the disk will fly off. i had the same problem with a pnuematic grinder. sometimes it is the operaters fault not the tools. " an object in motion aloways stays stays in motion till an outside force dissrupts it."

Halfords brand 380122 grinder disc changing ?

If it is a late design, there should be a button, on the 'head' of the grinder, which stops the disk from turning. Then you should have a spanner key, that fits in the nut that holds the disk on, turn in the 'Left hand down' direction to remove. However, if it does not have the said mechanism, you could always use 'Shock' treatment to remove the disk.Take a hammer. An old flat blade screw driver. Now wedge the disk so it doesn't turn, and place the tip of the screw driver in one of the holes, of the nut that holds the disk in place. Now strike, until it comes loose. This method works every time, but there is a small amount of damage incurred.ps. Don't hit your hand:)It hurts.Good luck with that.
