I changed the blade on my 10" Bosch miter saw this morning. First time and it was a bit challenging to release the screw when the blade was freely moving. Maybe there would have been a way to freeze it? Anyway, got it changed and the new blade is on. Plugged it in and now the blade is frozen. I tried starting twice and could hear the motor trying to respond. Then nothing. Is there a freeze/release mechanism somewhere or did I fry the motor?

See my other post. Also there is a locking mechanism to stop the blade rotation when removing it. It should be around the gearcase on the back side of the tool away from the blade.

I don't know if they can help you out, but I see that there's a British company that sells a lot of used woodworking machinery, has some manuals available, and might just be willing to take a couple of digital photos and email them to you, considering the fact you're in a school. I figure it's worth a shot! I hope this proves to be of some help. If not, well, good luck!

Bosch 4000 DIY 5-6 years old - My saw was working fine and then slowed up, I turned it off and the blade would not move freely, and I did smell a little burn. I took it to a Bosch service, and they told me they couldn't get the armature out and it would cost me $430 for a new motor. I am willing to work on it, to see if I can fit it, if you have some advice.

The reason they couldnt get the armature out is the field has probably melted around it a little. BUT not to worry. Remove the motor housing and with the assembly remove the brush caps. Turn the fan slightly and you will see 2 usually phillips screws that hold the field in the motor housing, remove them and then you can GENTLY tap the armature and field out of the housing, after you get it out a bit you will have to remove the wires from the field to the brush holders. After removing inspect the motor housing for damage from the heat. You will have to buy a new field and armature, and brushes. When replacing the armature make sure to replace the bearings. If you need any more assistance let me know and I will try and help.

Sears has a site for parts and owner manuals at could be something is just loose and out of adjustment so that the teeth were able to slip on the gear. But I've never had a look at one of those to say for sure...oil always helps these things move easier...

Blade misalignment Bosch 1590 jigsaw bends blade after using. blade is not correctly aligned after using ''align'' button. After use for a short time, saw bucks and fight. Was not like this new. Help.

The 1590, like several Bosch jigsaws, has a selector switch to choose the type of cutting action. You have to choose the appropriate cutting action, either straight or oscillating, to accommodate the material you cut and the blade you cut with. For instance, if using a very slender blade for clean curved cuts in wood, a slight oscillating motion ( setting II or III) reduces friction on the blade.  If you choose the straight cutting action you get maximum accuracy, but drastically increase the friction because the blade is held firmly to the roller bearing.  A slender blade can handle that for brief periods, (say... less than thirty seconds) in soft, thin wood with a straight cut. In hard woods or engineered wood products ( plywood, MDF etc.) the thin blade will heat up and bend.  You can reduce friction by choosing an oscillating cutting motion, or you can use a larger, sturdier blade. The "Aggressor" blades do not cut as smoothly as the "clean" blades, but they cut faster and are stronger. To cut thick wood ( 4x4 ) or a long cut in engineered material, that is the blade I use. Select number III or number II for 'type-of-cut' and use a bigger blade. See if that stops the "bucking." Good luck!
