Guide :Saws : Saws

Delta 10 I have a 10-yr. old saw that's seen occasional use in my basement shop. Yesterday the blade started whining and seizing while ripping a length of 1" cherry. By going REALLY slowly, I got through the piece. Tried again today, and the blade now stops at the slightest pressure from the workpiece. Just stops cold. Thoughts?  Thanks.

Replace the blade. It is very dull. Cherry is very hard wood and should be only cut with a very sharp blade.

Cordless Sawzall #6515-20. Cutting with it and it just stopped. Changed battery no go. tried moving the blade manually and it moved slowly a little and that was it. Took apart and tested the switch with a volt meter and checked the brushes; both were fine. Called the tech and he said it was the fields or feelers I think couldn't really understand with his accent. All i see on the diagram is the service field. Any ideas?? I'd rather not pay the $105 flat fee for a $25 part.

The field unless dropped is a permanent magnet and WON"T fail. I would look at the contacts from the battery to the saw. This battery has a sometimes problem with heating up and makes contact difficult. you can usually see where the housing is distorted in the contact area. if you have tested the switch and sounds like you know how to use the meter check the continuity/resistance across the brush leads and while doing this turn the armature slowly to check for open portions of the commutator. if all good there then your power supply is the area of concern. Let me know if I can help anymore. And did you call the 1-800-sawdust number.

My MK-101 cuts very slowly. I have had the saw 8 years, wonderful saw. Now when I cut hard porcelain or granite the saw will begin the cut and slowly loose torque until the blade practically stops, it will not trip the circuit however. If I ease off the cut the blade resumes spinning. To cut one tile I have to push it through the blade VERY slowly. Is this saw repairable, or is the motor finally going?

Hi,First off the saw may be repairable... the motor brushes are probably worn out. However finding the proper brushes and then getting a person to repair them is another story. The total cost and inconvenience will probably be more then a new saw.If you happen to have a motor repair shop nearby, I would take it in and get an estimate on the repair cost before authorizing the work to be done. This will insure that you do not spend more then the saw is worth to repair the motor. If you do not have a motor shop nearby then you are out o luck...I would not recommend trying to repair it yourself, as this is a tedious job that requires some special tools and experience to do properly.heatman101

Wobble blade /rough cuts

Did yo happen to put the round hoding plate back on before you bolted the blade on, this is what keeps the blade from wobbleling, if you have since you haven;t used it to much has anything hit against the shaft that might have broke the bearings? and made the shaft wobble,.but is sounds like the round washer that goes on the blade before the lovk nut is installed isn't there

My saw wont run only buzz

Sounds like teh capacitor has blown. These machines use normally use induction motors so they need the capacitor to take a charge and give the motor a kick in the right direction. You could CAREFULLY turn the machine on and spin the blade by hand. If it runs now then you will need a new capacitor.

Tile saw began having trouble starting. I would

Your motor brushed sound like they're gone bad. Some electric motors have two small plugs on the side which house the brushes. See if yours has this and get new parts. The other possibility is that the bearings are corroded and has built up enough resistance to stop everything.Might not be able to replace those, however.

Replacing the blade on a Makita 255mm miter saw

I take it you have both flanges and the washer that is behind the innner flange, if not stop there and you need to get them. As far as the blade goes it depends on what size arbor it has. You would need to use the washer that goes on the spindle with no play (movement) and put the blade on the washer I would not use a washer that is thicker than the blade. Put the outer flange on making sure of the direction and then the blade bolt LH thread. Let me know if you have any problems before starting the saw PLEASE and I will help more.

8 inch delta band saw that cant keep the band in place in use

The rubber bands on the metal wheels are called tires, and if they are cracked, they may very well be crowned and causing the problem with the band coming off.To test, remove the back guide (as opposed to the side guides) on the top and bottom guide sets (above and below the table.). Put a blade on, and see if it will stay on. If it doesn't, replace the tires. If it does, reinstall the back guides and make sure they do not touch the back of the blade when the saw is running. There should by about 1/32" between the guide and the blade.
