MBS 240/E proxxon bandsaw

The 24 TPI is the one to use. It sounds as if the blade is running to fast and over heating the blade and causing it to lose the temper in the balde steel. Try slowing the blade speed down if you can. Also you can try putting some cutting oil on the balde to stop it from clogging up. You can also rig up a small air line to blow on the cutting area to cool it down and remove the metal chips. I've also applied some wax to the blade every so often. A candle will work for this too. Hope this helps you, Jeepfxr

I am borrowing my brothers Craftsman model 137.218240 table saw. Unfortunately, it has a on/off switch problem (I believe). Yesterday, I was able to use it all day although, at first, I had difficulty getting it to turn "on". After about a dozen attempts (with no noise coming from the "on" switch activation) I called my brother who verified that the saw had this problem the last time he used it. He suggested I keep trying and I did and several activations later I heard a "thunk" noise twice (kind of like a locked rotor type sound), then finally it turned on a few trys later and all was well yesterday, just cross cutting some thin laminate flooring. However, this morning, same problem! However, after getting it going for two small cuts, I now cannot get it going, I just get the occasional "thunk" or momentary blade spinning! My questions are as follows: 1. Can I get inside this saw to see whether I can either repair, replace or bypass this switch myself. 2. Are you familiar with this type of problem and know of a solution? Manufacturer defect? By the way, the saw is not under warranty and Sear's service center is way too far away for me. also, this problem exists regardless whether I'm using an extension cord or not so I know it's not a low-voltage issue. Thanks in advance, Wayne

You can chec wiring or switch with an ohmmeter to determine if it is bad. You should be able to remove a few screws to access the inside of the saw fairly easily. You can easily by-pass the switch by twisting the wires together. Though it will have to be untwisted to shut off again. You could just unplug it. There isn't much to these.

Wood feels like its "pinching" between blad and fence

Possibly the problem is the wood itself. If it is burning both sides of the kerf then it is probably that your kiln dried wood is picking up moisture on the outside from the environment which causes it to bow inwards as it passes the saw. I have even had this problem with plywood. Just keeping timber in an unheated workshop for a while can cause the problem but after a few months it should equalize and the problem disappear at about 15% moisture content. (kiln dried timber should be nearer 10%) Cut part way along a plank and then mesure the kerf at the end of the plank and at the front of the cut. if it is significantly narrower at the plank end then that is your problem. These hard woods you mention are always a problem to cut on domestic saws at usually a maximum of 2000 watts . I use a 4500 watt motor in my saw and it will still complain at dry oak, ash and maple etc. especially if they are moving a bit as I cut them. Before I retired I had a panel saw half as powerful again as that and still those hard woods could cause trouble.

As long as the wires are intact it is still double grounded and yes you can replace the cord, as to not working sounds like a wire is broken
