My saw seems to have two speeds now. Fast and warp speed. It does not start slow at all. My husband took it apart to check the tension rod and wedge and when he put it back together accidently nipped the wires. So he soldered them back together obviously each colour to each colour so no red to black for instance. It was only after he did this that I have the speed problem. It turns out that the rod and wedge are not stripped like the repair techs thought it may may. I thought the tension knob was the problem because the grooves are worn smooth on the top where the rod fits in. I have that part ordered but now I have the super fast speed problem and it goes so fast that it seems to shake the blade out of the holders and I have no fine control when tryng intricate cuts. What may be causing this problem now?? I am getting so frustrated with this saw that has worked fine for 6 years and now loses tension and now races in speed.
Hi, I fear that the "Nipping" of those wires may have "Spiked" the speed controller, as this indeed, is the symptom of a faulty motor speed controller, I have seen it many times in my shop, you will need to most likely replace it.
You will need to get a workshop service manual, to be able to determine the parts number and how to wire it in once sourced. Either contact Dewalt direct and ask for a service manual, or Google for one using the exact make and model number Please use the link below to choose your location and contact Dewalt direct.
