Northern Tool 10" compound miter saw. How do I change the blade?

Remove the power cord from the socket in the wall first if there is a small hole in the blade , place a phillips screw driver in that hole and turn until the driver is locked against the depth guard use the correct size spanner /socket and undo the spindle nut holding the blade on if there is no hole ,then place the screw driver in the teeth of the blade to lock it the motor will spin so that the teeth cut against the direction of cut ( up into the guard or up through the depth guard ( blades normally have a arrow for rotation direction) tighten the spindle nut and if no hole in the blade use a hammer and hit the spanner with a hard rap

Hi there You do not need to remove the blade gaurd to change the blade. You only need to raise it enough to acces the blade screw. Unplug the saw. Raise the blade arm. Raise the guard to it's upper position. On the left side of the blade, just forward and up slightly from the blade screw is a screw for the guard bracket. Loosen, but do not remove this screw. Once it's loosened the guard can be raised farther exposing the blade screw. pg 6 of the manual illustrates this process, here's a link so you can see the parts I am discribing, click the pdf icon next to instruction manual, then open the file. As for the blade wrench, this should have come with the saw, there is a slot in the base for storing the wrench, on the back left side, it slides in and out for safe keeping. If you have misplaced the wrench the DEWALT part number 608563-1

Blade needs changing. nut is hard to get at

With the saw unplugged, retract the guard with the base plate extended so there is minimum teeth showing below. Place the blade of your saw on your wood top workbench. Press it down. Using the wrench that came with the saw or other appropriate size box or open end wrench or socket, turn the nut backward (this is a left hand thread not standard right hand thread). It will be tight. Alternatively, there may be a shaft lock that you can press to lock the shaft to facilitate unbolting the blade. Alternatively, there mau be a small hole in the blade. Insert a phillips screw driver in the hole to facilitate blade removal. Key is knowing the thread is backward to what you expect. The reason for this is to cayse the nut to tighten as you turn on the saw, not loosen. When you put on the new blade, make sure the nut is properly secured. I hope this is clear for you. If you have need for more information, please post a comment to this quesiton thanks for your interest in Please vote thanks a

Changing the blade to our compound miter saw when hex slot is rou

Ok a couple things to try...Firstly to hold the blade arbor still if it doesnt have an arbor/spindle lock button, try wedging a piece of wood between the blade and the saw table (might have to lower the cutting head and hold it down. Next try again with the hex key... Make sure it is the right size one, i.e. the one that came with the saw. If the hole is really rounded out, you are in a bit of a bind, however, the next option is to get a grinder and try and slice a groove across the nut so you can fit a large screwdriver or a flat piece of steel in th slot in the nut you just made for leverage and try and work the nut off that way. Either way, be sure to get a new blade nut if and when you get it off to make sure the problem doesn't occur again. See how you go.
