My very old Craftsman 10" Table Saw does not power on. While rip cutting some plywood, I errored and caused the blade to bind. Before I was able to power off the saw, the motor stopped. I thought I had popped a circuit breaker, but did not. Power to the table saw was still hot, yet when I power on the table saw it does nothing -- it's dead. The RESET button also does nothing. Does this sound like a broken switch or the motor? Craftsman 10" Table Saw - Model #113.295752 Please advise how to fit or whether to get a new table saw.

Go to searspartsdirect.com and put in your model number. Look at the motor and wiring section. Look at item 16. The motor overload protector. (probably your reset button) WIth saw unplugged, unwire one sid of this switch and test with an ohm meter. You should read through the switch. If it is open then that's why the saw doesn't work. Many of this type of oveload requires quite a push to reset as you're flexing a klixon disc back to make contact. If is open and you can't reset, it's available there although a bit high priced.

Depending on how much "arcing" you see it could be a couple different items. First some arcing is normal and usually runs across the brush edge, but if it is a lot and goes around the armature then it could be a brush spring that collapsed or worse the armature has an open or damaged segment on the commutator, I would take the brushes out first and look at them (unplug tool first) the edge that rides on the comm should both look the same and the spring also. If you can see then turn the blade by hand and look at the comm thru the brush tube for a different looking bar on it. Let me know the model number and I will pull up a breakdown and see if I can help you further.

My Powermatic Model 64A table saw is 10 years old and has been lightly used as a hobby. It's powered to run on 230 volts. Beginning two weeks ago, the motor has begun to shut down during use. Sometimes it will re-start and work fine for an entire day and other times it will not re-start at all. Must dust collector runs on the same electrical circuit without problem. The table saw problem occurs with and without the dust collector drawing power. Tim in Knoxville Does this sound like a bad switch, lose electrical connection or a motor problem? Or, could it be something really simple that I'm overlooking?

Does wiggling the cord cause the problem?

Is there an external phase shift capacitor for the motor? A defective phase shift capacitor can cause no or slow motor rotation and reduced motor power.

Half way through cuttig a 2*4 my crAFTSMAN table saw cut out. Hitting the trip switch had no effect. Power source is good. Is there something I'm missing

The trip circuit has a time delay for resetting. Wait about 30 to 60 seconds and it should work when resetting.
